How to Get Court Records
Skip the broad name search and go straight to the right office. The Bailey County District Clerk keeps the files of the 287th Judicial District Court. The Bailey County Clerk holds County Court civil, criminal, and probate material. The same office links the LGS system. Justice Court files cover citations, small claims, evictions, and debt claims. Muleshoe Municipal Court keeps the city's citation records. A quick phone call can sort out which office has the file. It can also tell you what that office charges. When you want staff to actually locate and copy a court record, though, put the request in writing.
- Identify the court, case type, party or case style, and a narrow date range.
- Use the case or cause number when known, then state the exact docket sheet, order, judgment, pleading, or other item sought.
- Choose LGS for eligible County Clerk access, or contact the clerk by phone, mail, fax, or at the counter.
- Ask whether the file is public, online, on paper, or on a legacy medium, and request the total fee.
- Specify an ordinary, certified, exemplified, or appellate clerk's copy and give a return contact and delivery format.
Need a state-level fallback? re:SearchTX can surface cases, filings, hearings, and documents where Bailey County coverage and the user's role permit. Coverage is not complete, though. Some courts and criminal records stay out, so a judicial-record request still has to reach the clerk or other custodian.
Bailey County LGS Court Images
For clerk-held indexes and images, Bailey County's main web route is the County Clerk's LGS Online Records Search. Searching costs nothing. A Guest Login shows index data and image previews. Registered users pick Search, choose the office and a record type such as Criminal, Civil, Probate, or Property. They then fill in the fields shown and open More Information or Images.
You can buy up to five court-case images before a subscription kicks in. Every purchase adds a mandatory $0.30 transaction fee. After checkout, downloads appear right away. They also appear later under Subscriptions and View Purchases; receipts sit under View Receipts. Not every indexed Bailey County court record has a public image. The index only proves an entry exists. So ask the clerk to inspect the file or make a copy.
The official Bailey County records portal confirms the system before any private case is opened.

That portal screen verifies you are in the official system, but it is not itself a certified Bailey County court record.
Types of Bailey Court Records
Think of a docket as a chronological finding aid. The case file holds the actual documents behind its entries. Bailey County court records can include petitions, complaints, answers, motions, notices, orders, judgments, bonds, citation returns, and a clerk's record assembled for appeal. Transcripts are different. They usually come through the court reporter, not as a routine clerk copy.
- District Court felony, family, civil, and child-protection case files
- County Court misdemeanor, probate, civil, and juvenile case records
- Justice Court citation, eviction, small-claims, and debt-claim records
- Muleshoe Municipal Court citation and city-ordinance files
- Docket sheets, filed documents, final orders, judgments, and certified copies
These are public records, but not court dockets. The Bailey County Clerk keeps land, marriage, birth, death, assumed-name, and mark-and-brand filings as separate record categories rather than as cases on a court docket.
Bailey Court Records by Clerk
Which clerk holds a Bailey County court record depends on the court level. A felony file or a major district civil case sits with District Clerk Lupita Pineda. Probate and misdemeanor County Court files belong to County Clerk Irene Espinoza. Send your request to the wrong office and the docket search stalls, and you may come away wrongly believing no record exists at all.
| Bailey County office | Record focus | Contact |

| County Clerk | County Court civil, criminal, probate, and LGS records | 806-272-3044 |
| Justice Court | JP citations, evictions, small claims, debt claims | 806-272-4300 |
| Muleshoe Municipal Court | City citations and municipal case records | 806-272-7586 |
Both clerk offices are in Muleshoe, but not at one counter. When the file type, copy service, or staff availability is unclear, call first.
What a Bailey Court Record Contains
What a record holds depends on the court and the case. A public docket can show a header and event list. The filed image may still be restricted or absent online. Dates play distinct roles too. Filing, clerk entry, hearing, and judgment dates each mark a separate event. So never read them as one.
| Case or cause number | The court-assigned key for the most exact Bailey County court record search. |
|---|---|
| Case style | The caption naming the parties, such as State v. defendant or plaintiff v. defendant. |
| Docket entries | A dated list of filings, settings, orders, resets, and disposition events. |
| Pleadings and motions | Documents stating claims or defenses or asking the court for an order. |
| Orders and judgments | Signed rulings, final outcomes, and other judicial directions. |
| Access status | Public, redacted, sealed, restricted, not digitized, or clerk-only. |
A portal entry is just an index until you open the item. For a broad lookup before ordering a file, try the Bailey County case search routes.
Older Bailey County Court Files
Bailey County's fiscal 2024 budget carried a District Clerk line for microfilm records. That does not mean older cases are missing online. It does show legacy systems still matter. A historical Bailey County court record may sit on microfilm, paper, or another medium. That medium may never show up as a downloadable web image.
Help the clerk help you. Give an approximate filing year, the case type, party names, and any old cause number. Ask which year was digitized first. Ask too whether an index survives, and whether microfilm conversion adds a charge. The clerk can also say if a file moved to storage. It may even belong to another court. That conversation usually beats rerunning a modern portal search with new spellings.
Note: A missing image can reflect age, access limits, or indexing status. It does not signal the absence of a Bailey County court record.
Certified Copies and Fees
An ordinary copy just reproduces filed material for reference. A certified copy carries the clerk's authentication and seal, which is what most agencies demand. A clerk's record, by contrast, is an assembled appellate record. It is not another word for a plain copy. Ask the recipient what it actually needs, plain, certified, exemplified, electronic, paper, or appellate. Bailey County's current office schedule controls the total.
| District Clerk item | Government Code ยง51.902 planning amount |
|---|---|
| Locate cause without docket number | $5 |
| Abstract of judgment | $8 |
| Certified paper copy | $5 certification plus $1 per page |
| Electronic document, up to 10 pages | $1 |
| Electronic document over 10 pages | $1 plus $0.10 per page over 10 |
| Clerk's record on appeal | $1 per page |
The County Clerk links a fiscal 2026 fee PDF, so confirm the current figures by phone before paying. Free index access does not waive image, transaction, certification, or staff search charges.

Rule 12 and Bailey Records
Texas draws a line between case records and other judicial material. Case records tie to a lawsuit or a prosecution. Clerks and courts manage those under case-record rules. Administrative files sit differently. Rule 12 may cover some of them. The Texas judiciary open-records policy explains the split: courts and judicial agencies do not answer to the Texas Public Information Act or federal FOIA the way executive agencies do. That distinction shapes how you seek Bailey County court records. The official Rule 12 page lays out the rule itself for Bailey County readers.

Keep any request specific, and send it to the office that holds the record. If a non-adjudicative record is denied, Rule 12 gives you an appeal path. A denied case record is different; it follows the court's own rule, order, or review process instead.
Public Access and Sealed Records
Public access has limits in Bailey County. Not every image is downloadable by anyone. Texas Rule of Civil Procedure 76a starts from a presumption that civil court records are open, yet a court can seal material under that rule's test. Family Code chapter 58 adds its own walls around juvenile records. Courts may also seal, restrict, or redact protective orders, child-protection files, medical facts, Social Security numbers, driver-license data, and details that would identify protected people.
Key Bailey County court record rules:
Rule 12 policy governs non-adjudicative judicial records and distinguishes them from case records.
Texas Rule of Civil Procedure 76a states the civil-record openness presumption and sealing test.
Texas Family Code chapter 58 supplies juvenile confidentiality and sealing rules.
A result is missing from a Bailey County court docket search. Ask a few questions first. Is the file sealed or restricted? Is it simply not digitized, not indexed, or held by a different clerk? Sealing is not dismissal, acquittal, expunction, or nondisclosure. A public header can stay up while one document stays closed. A disposed case still counts as a public Bailey County court record.
Bailey Court Record Request Script
A narrow request saves the clerk real time. Name the court. Give the case number, the party or case style, the filing period, and the exact item you want. Say what format and authentication you need. Add a phone or email for replies, and get the cost before work begins. Try something like this: "I seek the public court case record for this Bailey County court. I am working under this cause number and case style. I need the docket sheet and the named order as an electronic noncertified copy. Please tell me whether your office is the custodian. Please tell me whether the item is online, and the total fee." Switch the copy type if you need a certified version. Skip requests for a whole database or every record under a common surname.
